“When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I discovered just how powerful exercise and nutrition can be and how incredibly resilient our bodies are if we train and fuel them correctly.
“I was working as a news journalist and feature writer when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. When I discovered I was ill, I knew I’d need to keep my body strong. I had always enjoyed exercise and turned to a team of fitness experts – the same people who will coach you at our Fitter, Stronger retreats – for advice. I cleaned up my diet and exercised as often as possible, allowing my body to rest when necessary. I was training to climb Snowdon when I received my diagnosis. That trip was put on hold, to allow me to cope with chemotherapy and resurrected as my treatment drew to a close. The following month, I climbed Ben Nevis, to mark the end of my treatment and a new beginning.
“Nutrition and regular training weren’t just good for my physical health, they helped me cope when I had to tell my husband and children, when I watched my friends cry and when I faced surgery. They gave me a positive focus away from cancer, helped me look beyond my condition and to the future.
“In 2015, I qualified as a personal trainer and created Fitter, Stronger to motivate others. We offer a luxurious location, delicious food and we take a practical approach, tailoring advice for busy lives and scaling exercise according to ability. We work with complete beginners and those who have exercised all their lives.
“Right from the start, I wanted James Cracknell to be involved. He seizes life and embraces physical and mental challenges, fighting back from a near fatal head injury following a collision with a lorry while on his bike, to run the London Marathon in 2 hours 50 minutes and complete the Coldest Race On Earth in the Canadian Yukon. I’m very proud of Fitter, Stronger. Our message is simple.
“Keep your mind and body strong and you’ll achieve far more than you think possible. We’ll show you how.”
I can highly recommend Paula for personal training. She has been great for me, very supportive and knows her stuff. I even had a session with my two year old son in the room and Paula was so good with him, too. She's very motivational and ready ready to help.
Dear Paula, What a fun weekend, full of laughs and memories are definitely made of times like this. I have seen us all grow in confidence and health in these few days away. I'm going to resume walking again, it's something I always used to do. I was inspired by Scott and that really appeals to me as it makes the journey more important than the destination which is the way I feel I benefit from living my life now. What a wonderful idea it was for you to think your vision could become a reality and bring people like us together for a few days. I’m just reflecting on a fabulous fun weekend spent with a great group of people. My ribs still ache from laughing!! Your philosophy has certainly had a profound effect on my outlook for my future wellbeing and I congratulate you and your team for inspiring us all. Morning Paula, I hope you have had some time to relax since you got home. My husband says it sounds like my friend and I had a great time, and fitted in some exercise, which he wasn't expecting us to do at all! Dear Paula I wanted to send a huge thank you for the most wonderful weekend at Chewton Glen. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and the change in John has been amazing.
